A Listening Companion website provides a learning environment that promotes listening to and understanding English as a second language. The collection includes more than 200 copyright-free videos and corresponding exercises, which allow students to get better acquainted with nine anglophone speakers. The set showcases a typical range of modern English for listeners in training. In addition, the videos reveal interesting facts about the speakers’ lives, using practical everyday language. A touch of spontaneity and a good deal of sincerity make these people very endearing and profoundly human. Furthermore, vocabulary exercises, comprehension questions and interactive exercises provide dynamic feedback to the student. There is also a glossary of definitions of useful words and expressions used by the speakers. The short videos are accessible on various devices and the corresponding transcripts are provided in PDF format to be downloaded and printed as needed.
